GMC takes part in National Military Appreciation Month

As a gesture to America?s men and women in uniform, GMC has partnered with the organization A Million Thanks in an effort to express gratitude to those serving in the military. Three General Motors divisions ? Buick, Pontiac and GMC ? are involved in National Military Appreciation Month, with the goal of collecting one million ?thank you? letters at various dealerships. Upon compiling the notes, A Million Thanks will handle distribution to soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen/women all over the world.

?The reaction we?ve received from the military who have been reached by our efforts has been so rewarding,? said Shauna Fleming, founder of A Million Thanks. ?The support of Buick, Pontiac and GMC will allow us to greatly expand our ability to reach out to members of the armed forces around the world, exactly at a time when they need our support the most.?

Last year GMC partnered with the VFW National Home for Children, providing over $3 million to the support network for military families requiring assistance.

GMC enters crossover segment via front-wheel-drive based Acadia SUV

General Motors long-time truck division GMC is fielding the 2007 GMC Acadia this year, the manufacturer?s first vehicle based on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) body-on-frame integral platform. All-wheel-drive (AWD) variants are also offered, but Acadia is a striking departure from the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) truck-based vehicles that have previously defined the brand.

A standard 3.6-liter V6 engine sends 275 horsepower and 251 foot-pounds of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy rates at 18 city/26 highway miles per gallon (mpg) as a FWD vehicle, and 17 city/24 highway mpg in AWD format. Maximum towing capacity is 4,500 pounds for the eight-passenger GMC Acadia.
