April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Do you give the process of driving the attention it deserves? Do any of us? Even the most careful drivers have lapses in concentration from time to time, and the likelihood of this increases as the years go by.
Think about your driving style now compared to when you had just passed your test. You are a much better driver now, more natural and with skills honed through years of experience. But, back then, you were an earnest driver, carefully checking each and every detail and staying alert. Years of complacency can erode this.
This is why the team at Acura of Fayetteville are offering our support to the National Safety Council’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month. We hope that you will join us and do the same this April.
It is a shocking fact, but it is a pertinent one; our roads are becoming more dangerous. Motor vehicle fatalities have risen by six percent in only three years, and 40,000 people tragically lost their lives on American roads in 2015. Those who drive a vehicle as part of their work or their professional life are also greatly affected, as car crashes have become the number one cause of death in the American workplace. Much of this horror is caused by distractions which take away the attention of drivers when they need it most.
This could come in the form of a ringing cell phone, a dashboard setting which needs to be changed, a passenger, an alcoholic drink, a lit cigarette, or something going on outside of the vehicle. There are a million and one ways in which a driver can be distracted, and, all too often, these lead to the same tragic outcome.
So, this April, let’s put a stop to this, not only for one month but for all time. Pay a visit to the National Safety Council’s website to find out what you can do to help. They have a wide range of resources, including posters and fact sheets which you can use to get the word out there. There are also webinars and online events which you can get involved in.
