Elegant Value: Acura Cuts Price on Top RLX Hybrid
Often, a “bargain” isn’t really such a deal. However, Acura appears to be giving buyers a rare inducement: It’s an elegant value.
A Brilliant Bargain
The car in question is the 2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid. It now includes the Advance Package which was previously optional. With destination fees, the 2018 MSRP represents a great price.
The price cut comes with Acura’s recognition that more luxury drivers need to rediscover (or discover for the first time) the virtues of the RLX. It has long competed in the rarified air of the premium European brands. Now, RLX offers the performance and refinement of a true luxury car, at a slightly less luxurious price.
The RLX holds its own in the world of advanced hybrid technology.
The 3.5L V6 produces 310 horsepower. It’s aided by three electric motors (one in the transmission, and one for each rear wheel). Working together under computer control, they send the precise amount of force needed at each wheel under all traction conditions.
Acura calls it Super Handling All Wheel Drive. It lets the RLX go where simple rear-wheel-drive luxury cars fear to tread. In fact, it’s the same system used in the new Acura NSX supercar.
The RLX offers more than a stunning drivetrain.
The interior features six-level heated and ventilated seats, a Krell® audio system, a surround-view camera, and power sunshades. That’s in addition to the suite of safety and convenience features expected in a true luxury car.
