More Refined for Mankind: The 2018 Acura MDX
Acura MDX can reasonably claim to have pioneered a market segment.
The MDX was the first 3-row luxury crossover. It dared to be not-really-an-offroader back in the days when lack of a serious 4×4 chassis was a potential embarrassment.
We’ve seen how that turned out: It’s 2018 and every automaker wants a piece of the luxury-crossover (CUV) action.
However, most of them have to go through Acura to get it. The MDX still reigns supreme in the segment it created.
Now, Even More Refined
For 2018, MDX increases the refinement that brought it to such great success starting almost 20 years ago.
A new, less-confusing infotainment system is front and center (literally) with a new lower LCD touchscreen. They’ve added Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility.
Perhaps the biggest news for 2018 is the inclusion of the AcuraWatch. This suite of active safety systems includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Front Collision Avoidance. No, the MDX can’t drive itself—yet—but it’s getting there.
Coming soon with a 3.5L V6 the standard powerplant. The MDX Sport Hybrid model will add a pair of electric motors (and one in the transmission) to deliver the wonders of SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive) with the efficiency of a hybrid.
The MDX continues to offer a great value in space, comfort, and safety, all mixed in with a sporty responsiveness and all-weather capability (especially in the SH-AWD models).
The MDX moves ever-closer to realizing Acura’s aim of providing a CUV “made for mankind” as the company stated during the introduction of the current model. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine any type of motoring for which the MDX is not suited.
